Challenge

An LED emits light in the form of a divergent bundle of rays. An additional lens within the LED housing is required to produce a less divergent cone of rays. What would an LED that emits perfectly collimated light, just like sunlight, look like?

Invention

The RES-LED features an internal reflector with convex, parabolic sides. After being reflected two or three times, the rays emitted by the LED become straight. A final refraction as they leave the housing then collimates them into an almost parallel bundle.

Advantages

  • Artificial light source with the qualities of sunlight
  • Collimation of the emitted light
  • Modules containing several LEDs in one housing

Applications

  • Artificial sun
  • Headlights of all kinds
  • Artificial light system for greenhouses
  • Surgical light
