The animation shows a small Airbus designed by RES for future regional air travel. It has seating for up to twenty passengers. Two electric engines consisting of two counter-rotating propellers with adjustable radial blades and ring wings are positioned at the rear of the aircraft where the laminar flow around the fuselage breaks off. These engines generate thrust in two ways. First, the radial rotor blades generate thrust according to the recoil principle. Second, the two differently sized ring wings generate thrust according to the lift principle. The suction sides of each ring wing align with the fuselage. Since the laminar flow follows the tapered fuselage at the rear, both ring wings are approached at a positive angle of attack. This produces a forward-inclined lift vector, from which a thrust vector acting in the direction of flight can be derived.

A rapid response is crucial in the event of a fire. A fire can be effectively fought within the first few minutes with relatively little effort. The eight to fifteen minutes it takes fire departments in Germany to arrive after being alerted seems too long. The firefighting drone shown in the video can quickly stop fires from spreading in densely populated areas and fire-prone forests by monitoring the area from the air. For this task, we propose a firefighting drone equipped with an especially effective propeller engine. This engine has adjustable rotor blades and a guide ring wing that directs airflow from a larger ring wing at an angle. Further details on this innovative propeller engine can be found in the aforementioned European patent specification. The lightweight nature of extinguishing powder makes it particularly well-suited to the firefighting drone presented here. By comparison, one kilogram of fire-extinguishing powder would require a water-foam mixture of six liters of water. The main advantage of the dry extinguishing agents found in the powder is their extremely fast and versatile extinguishing effect, which is especially useful for complex or mixed fires. They are frost-resistant and have a long shelf life. They also provide additional protection against intense radiant heat through the powder cloud. Dry extinguishing agents have an anticatalytic effect, abruptly interrupting the combustion process and smothering the fire by covering the embers. They are universally applicable and ideal for a wide variety of fire types, including those involving solid materials such as wood or paper, liquid materials such as gasoline or paints, and gases such as propane or natural gas. Since powder extinguishers can often be used in an extreme temperature range of up to -30 °C, they are ideal for outdoor use. For example, they can be used to extinguish a burning vehicle. The extinguishing cloud cools the vehicle and forms a heat shield for the firefighter. Extinguishing powders are heat-resistant and long-lasting. Compared to foam extinguishers, powder is very durable and needs replacing less frequently.

The video shows an electric aircraft propulsion system. A fan several meters in size is housed in a casing that directs airflow at a positive angle of attack onto a ring-shaped fan blade with a number of radial rotor blades. This generates thrust in the direction of flight. The radial rotor blades direct air into a downstream compressor consisting of several compression stages that can be combined with a combustion chamber. Each compression stage consists of a smaller rotating annular blade that connects the radial rotor blades and acts as a guide vane for the airflow to a larger counter-rotating annular blade with a positive angle of attack. This generates thrust in the direction of flight within the compressor stage. The air, accelerated and compressed by the jet engine, is expelled rearward, generating thrust according to the reaction principle.
