The hydrodynamic hybrid concept "RES-Monohull" combines the characteristics of a flat-built glider with the slenderness of a submarine and with a novel propulsion technology. The underwater hull causes a divergent displacement at the bow, while the flow is convergent at the stern. Therefore the incoming flow is divergent for a ring vane, rotating clockwise at the bow, with its suction side oriented outwardly, while the the incoming flow is convergent for a ring vane, rotating counterclockwise at the stern, with its suction side oriented towards the hull, resulting in positive angles of attack on both ring vanes, providing thrust in the direction of travel. For ships with a length of 50 to 250 m that can carry 5,000 to 30,000 tons of cargo, this hydrodynamic hybrid concept can achieve speeds of 25 to 30 knots without an exponential increase in energy consumption. Speeds beyond 35 knots are also feasible with this integral propulsion concept for mono hulls.
