The challenge
A major part of a vehicle's drive power is needed to displace the fluid in front of the vehicle. Increasing the driving speed causes an exponential growth of air resistance. While at the front of the vehicle air is driven out of the direction of travel, at its rear end dead water adds on the resistance. Is it possible to regain a big part of the energy lost to the displacement of the fluid surrounding a vehicle?
The invention
The RES-Traction Wing has an asymmetric wing profile with a chord that lines up with the direction of the deflective fluid at the streamlined front of a vehicle. In a ring or bow shape the RES-Traction Wing follows the streamlined front in a regular distance within the projected maximal cross-sectional area of the vehicle. Therefore the RES-Traction Wing causes a traction force in direction of motion, which is much bigger than the resistance caused by the wing itself.
The advantages
- Creation of a traction force in direction of travel
- Reduction of the overall drive resistance of a vehicle
- Substantial energy savings for the engine

- Rail vehicles
- Road vehicles
- Vessels
