A total of ten electrically driven propellers stream the leading edge of the wing and are adjustable in any direction due to a new type of electric machine. The nose segment and the trailing edge segment of the wing can be pivoted relative to a supporting center segment in such a way that the lift of the variable wing profile can be varied according to the situation by means of a gear integrated into the center wing segment with a transmission ratio of about 1:60. As long as the sun shines this solar airplane is capable of transporting ten passengers on regional distances without consuming other energy than the one provided by the sun. The RES-Sunflyer is equipped with rather modestly sized accumulator packs to provide extra power for starting and climbing. Once in the air the airplane is maneuvering with its wings and does not need a conventional tail with control surfaces. It is also possible to incline the wings in order to expose the PV-cells to the sun. This is made possible by variable wing profiles which can moderate lift. Four wings are interconnected among each other and together with a slim fuselage form the diamond shaped air frame.
