A total of ten electrically driven propellers stream the leading edge of the wing and are adjustable in any direction due to a new type of electric machine. The nose segment and the trailing edge segment of the wing can be pivoted relative to a supporting center segment in such a way that the lift of the variable wing profile can be varied according to the situation by means of a gear integrated into the center wing segment with a transmission ratio of about 1:60. The RES-Sunflyer is equipped with rather modestly sized accumulator packs to provide extra energy for starting and climbing. Once in the air the airplane is flying with inclineable wings exposing the photovoltaic cells to the sun. This is made possible by variable wing profiles which can moderate lift. Four wings interconnected to one another and to a slim trunk form the diamond shaped foldable airframe.
